Transcoding: Allow transcoding of media into different file formats
David Sarlos
Supporting more advanced encoding codecs such as AV1 (or H.265/H.266 ) are important steps towards reducing carbon footprint emission of the Ziggeo service and saving bandwidth for every end-user.
Ziggeo
David Sarlos: We agree in supporting additional formats. This feature is more about file formats (mp4, avi, mov, etc). These different file formats bring different things to media, so they play a role in how the video can be used. So it is not just a file extension that is changed.
The codec change is also planned, however you can find them:
support for AV1 codec
support for H.265 codec
PS: Actually AV1 requires at least 10 times more processing power compared to our current system. Because of that it will only be saving carbon footprint in cases where the playback count of a video is large enough. Likely around 100 or more playbacks depending on video.
